| Lucifer: Akio, the devil himself |
Akio has many dealings with Mikage, especially as the mysterious you-know-who, the person who has more of a right to be in Mikage's office (and Ohtori Academy) than the pink-haired genius himself. He is the man that controls all around him, trying to force the coming of Revolution, for his own reasons. This fallen angel has become Lucifer, the devil himself.
Long ago, he used to be Dios, the prince who saved the world. But, in order to save him from his own nobility, his sister Anthy locked him away. For her punishment, she became the Rose Bride, a witch, living for eternity in pain. Dios had a different change occur, and he became Ends of the World, the mysterious you-know-who of Ohtori Academy. Within the suspended reality of the school, he plays out his intentions, obviously bitter at what he lost of himself by being locked away. Akio complains of losing "the me I once was" while condemning Anthy to Utena, telling her his sister actually "enjoys being a witch."
Further lashing out against his fate, Akio also forever changes the life of the disinterested scholar, Professor Nemuro. But is this entirely bad? I think perhaps not. Although the ends of this Lucifer's plans did not care what happened to Nemuro (in fact treating him like less than dirt) it is the manipulations of Ends of the World that breathe new life into Nemuro's being. Mikage and his twisted memories may not have been real, but Nemuro and his feelings for his surrogate family (Tokiko and Mamiya) were. So, Nemuro may be left with nothing save the truth in the end, forgotten by those of Ohtori, but at least he had the memories of Tokiko's friendship, and his love for her.
