WHY || I was vaguely interested in Tokyo Mew Mew as a mahou shoujo series, but when I saw the first volume of a la Mode, I instantly loved it and became obsessed with the new main character, Berry, who is an incredibly cute rabbit-and-cat Mew. I thought about cosplaying a Mew before, but the only costume I liked at all was Ichigo and I felt she was overdone. I'm so happy to have found Berry, as she's so me.

HOW || First, I made the wand prop, which took some time. It is made out of PVC pipe, and styrofoam covered with paperclay. Everything was carefully sanded and painted. The bow was made out of some scrap material. The heart broach was also made out of paperclay and painted with stained glass paint.

The corset top was a regular pattern. The shorts were modified from a bloomers pattern and stuffed with a short petticoat. The body of the costume was made out of casa satin, all the accessories out of fleece. The ears were made on headband, and stuck through small holes cut into the wig. The tail was sewn, then stuffed. A heavy gauge wire was run through it. The wire was attached to a small square of cardboard that was glued and sewn onto a wide belt made of extra satin.
