CHARACTER || Kagura Sohma
SERIES || Fruits Basket (Furuba)
TIME || 30+ hours
COST || $75+
DEBUT || Anime Central 2004
WHY || Last summer I watched Fruits Basket and it quickly became one of my favorite anime series. I love the character of Kagura, she's gentle, devoted, funny and violent. My favorite episode is the Valentine's Day one, and the yellow skirt outfit is what Kagura wears on this day.
HOW || I made the skirt as part of a sewing class taken last winter, and it was about 20 pieces due to the inverted pleats, so I was happy with all the help I could get. The skirt was hand-hemmed (which took *forever*) and then white satin ribbon was fused around the bottom with Steam-A-Seam. The jacket was sewn with a modified pattern to shorten it and change the button arrangement. The collar was lined in white fleece and the rest of the lining and exterior were gabardine. The Kyo backpack was made out of felt. The head and paws were stuffed and the middle was lined in muslin and functioned as a backpack. The belt was made out of a strip of pleather and a vest buckle. The boots and shirt were purchased.
