Bride: Magical Girl

Sailor Moon is the type of story called "magical girl" (this is "mahou shoujo" in Japanese). This genre is targeted towards a younger female audience and is a story typically about schoolgirls, and they possess some sort of power brought upon by seemingly magical sources, such as Bunny's Silver Imperium Crystal. Other series of this type include Card Captor Sakura and Wedding Peach. And then there is one show that positivly drips of magical girl elements, however, it is a shounen (boy's) parody of this genre, Magical Girl Pretty Sammy. For more on this genre, I invite you to view the wonderful mahou shoujo website by my friend Michelle, Henshin.

Here is a small listing of magical girl elements that Sailor Moon possesses:
Magical Girl element Sailor Moon example
Girl or group of girls (usually with a clear leader) who fight evil The Sailor Scouts come together as a group to fight the enemy of the story arc, and Bunny is clearly the main character and the ultimate object of enemy attacks, even though Sailor Venus is technically the leader of the inner senshi.
Cute sidekick In Sailor Moon, this would probably be the cats, noteably Luna who directs Bunny especially in the beginning.
Repeated phrases, transformation sequence (usually has something to do with clothing) For Bunny, this would be her various calls of "Make-Up" and changing into her forms of Sailor Moon.
Recognizable attacks Yes, the ever constant calls of "Rainbow Moon Heartache!" and so forth. Unless a power upgrade has been gone through, the Sailor Scouts typically only have a small number of different attacks, with Sailor Moon's being the strongest. (Although they have quite a few more in the manga than in the anime.)
Who is that? Nobody recognizes them in their magical form Although only small things like outfit are changed when she undergoes her transformation, very few people seem to know Sailor Moon is Bunny, at least right away. Except for her family and close friend Molly, many come to figure out Bunny's secret identity as plot allows. (However, this is not at all the case in the anime, she has to transform in front of a person before they have a clue.)

The magical girl genre is part of the larger shoujo (girl's) shows that come out. Besides all the magical girl series, shoujo also includes such shows as Fushugi Yuugi, Shoujo Kakumei Utena, and Magic Knight Rayearth. (I am listing MKR as shoujo due to the debate on if it could be considered true mahou shoujo; but either way, it is certainly shoujo, and I myself have not seen MKR anime and therefore cannot decide for myself.)
